I might as well post this now (as I sit here flirt horny chat oak Lages with ice on my knee..lol) Here is the upshot: I am severely underemployed. I am a teacher by profession, even have an MA. but made the terrible mistake of quitting my job 5 years ago to buy my first home (well, a condo, really) where the commute was too far to be reasonable. At the time, I was under the mistaken assumption that a good teacher can always find a job. We all know what's happened to schools in Calif. While I have been subbing regularly, it is not enough to suppost me, so I also work nights. (bartending) This vicious circle of working 14-16 hour days has been terrible on my health (back and knee problems) and while I continue to look for teaching positions, I the few openings go to those right out of college, with no experience and emergency credentials; that way the districts can pay far less (not that teachers get paid a mint anyway.) The other cold fact that I've come to realize is that my degrees and credentials are old. So yes, I know I have transferrable skills, but how to navigate those to another career that pays a decent wage that I might enjoy?? I would be perfect as a trainer for any company, and actually am at a time in my life where I'd enjoy travel, but haven't had any luck breaking in anywhere. All the posts on this thread haven't been encouraging. Anyone have any ideas? I guess a good place to start would be to pick up a copy of the new edition of "Parachute." 1.
